USA-based Ugandan singer, songwriter, and producer Jon Muq, born Jonathan Mukhwana, is over the moon after being put into consideration for several Grammy nominations. Known for his soulful blend of Americana and roots music, Jon Muq recently let it spill how the news got him dumbfounded. “Being considered for these Grammy categories really made my head spin with a big smile. I did not know what it meant, now I do,” he wrote on Instagram.
His single ‘Shake Shake’ has been put up for consideration in two of the major categories, namely Best Americana Performance and Best American Roots Song. In addition, Jon Muq is further considered for his nominations in the Best New Artist and Best Americana Album categories for this year’s Grammy.
Growing up in Mutungo Hill, on the outskirts of Kampala, Jon Muq has had a transitioning journey from Uganda to the global stage that is nothing short of inspiring. In 2018, following an appearance at the major South by Southwest festival, he moved to the United States, where he is based in Austin, Texas. His hit singles include ‘Bend’, ‘One You Love’, ‘Flying Away From Home’, and ‘Shake Shake’, in which his soulful vocals won over continental audiences.
In front of the upcoming 67th Annual Grammy Awards on 2nd February 2025, held in Los Angeles, Jon Muq calls on all voters to help him reach this nomination stage and shows his gratitude for all those who supported him up until now.
From Uganda to being one of the potential winners of one of the most prestigious music awards in the world, that is an endorsement of the talent and hard work of Jon Muq. We wish him the best as he keeps flying the Ugandan flag on the global music scenes!
