Makerere University has extended its semester registration deadline by two weeks to enable students to register amidst penalties. The move was directed after a request from the Students’ Guild Minister for Academic Affairs, Caleb Gashema.
Initially, it was set that free registration would close on October 18, 2024. Now, students can register until November 1, 2024, free of charge. The university also reconfirmed that the due date for payment remains November 1, 2024. After then, late registration involves a UGX 50,000 late fee and 5% surcharge on any outstanding amount.
This extension is meant to accommodate students who have faced difficulties in registering in time. This was confirmed by the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi, on October 16, 2024. The directive has been addressed to the key university officials, including the Vice Chancellor and the Academic Registrar, for effective implementation.
Students are now supposed to utilize this extension to finalize their registration process before the new deadline.
