At its 30th graduation ceremony held at its main campus in Nkozi, UMU graduated over 1,000 students with degrees and other academic qualifications in various courses. The ceremony was conducted under the theme, “Celebrating our Heritage and Positioning Uganda Martyrs University in the 21st Century.” Indeed, this captures the essence of the university’s continued commitment to blending the richness of history with the demands of modern education.
It started with a thanksgiving mass, adding to the day’s events a solemn and reflective mood. During the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of UMU, Prof. Patrick Kyamanywa, gave a strong message on the role of ethical values in education. He urged the graduating class to be steadfast for justice and integrity, especially in the face of challenges within society such as racism, tribalism, and gender-based violence.
Prof. Kyamanywa said the university is committed to producing responsible graduates with an ethical perspective to contribute back to society. He added that UMU offers holistic education based on Catholic foundations, yet open to the dynamic challenges of the time.
Founded in 1993 by the Uganda Episcopal Conference, UMU has continued to play an instrumental role in the formation of holistic individuals who make meaningful contribution to society. Besides the academic excellence being celebrated at this graduation ceremony, this event has also highlighted the university’s continuing commitment to the production of ethical and socially responsible leaders.
On this occasion, there were overflows of joy and pride as students, families, and representatives of faculty came together to mark an important occasion which would go into the album memory of those present.
