The Titans edged past Namuwongo Blazers 81-77 in game two of the 2024 National Basketball League (NBL) Semifinal series at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Sunday. The Titans, with the series tied, will want to get into the lead in the next game—the next game is set for Tuesday.
Team Julius Lutwama took the drive from takeoff and led with 10 points at quarter time, cruising to take a 68-47 lead throughout the third quarter. Despite spirited moves in the fourth quarter by the Blazers, the Titans were able to hold on and clinch the crucial win to tie the series.
The dying minutes of the game were tense; both teams had to grapple with foul challenges. Titans’ Edgar Munaba, Pierre Kasereka Tembo, and Collins Kasujja were fouled out minutes away from Namuwongo’s Innocent Ochera, who was ejected from the game.
Scoring 19 points for the Titans was Peter Obleng. He was well complemented by Pierre Kasereka Tembo with 16 points, Joel Lukoji Banza with 13 points, and both Edgar Munaba and Collins Kasujja with 10 points each.
For the Titans, their defense and offense were both improved, best of what they do, and with that, they just ruled the rebounding battle of 42-32, aside from scoring 30 from the paint.
Kasujja’s Reaction
Collins Kasujja said upon scooping victory,
It feels fantastic to win, and that’s what we got as the reward for a great battle here today. We really needed this win to level the series, and finally, we are back at ground zero. We shall now focus on game number three after this.
He confessed this when he said, “It was a tight game; that’s why we had all those fouls, but luckily enough, we managed our situation professionally.”
Kasujja also reached out to thank the fans: “I would like to thank our fans for backing us even when things didn’t go well in game one. Thank you for your support and please come back on Tuesday.”
Looking Ahead
The battle still rages on for the Titans when they take on Namuwongo Blazers in game three come Tuesday evening at 9 PM, Lugogo Indoor Arena. All square in the series, the two sides will certainly come in determined to take an early advantage in what would be a titanic encounter.
