Makerere University’s Directorate for ICT Support has launched the Mak Financial Management System.
The system is intended to provide an online platform where the Makerere Finance Directorate and individual user units will be able to manage budgets more efficiently and effectively. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by the Chief Guest, who is the chairperson of the University Council’s Finance, Planning, Administration, and Investment Committee—Mr Bruce Kabaasa.
The Mak-FMS system is an in-house development supposed to serve all cost centers at the university. It automates all financial processes related to the generation of requisitions and vouchers.
The above development is, therefore, very relevant to enhancing efficiency as well as the transparency of financial operations at the university.
Mr. Evarist Bainomugisha, the University Bursar, thanked the Council, Management, and the DICTS developers for their efforts toward the realization of this system. He emphasized that the Mak-FMS would empower individual cost centers to manage their own budgets in a better way than the IFMIS, which consolidates the unit budgets.
Mr. Yusuf Kiranda, the University Secretary, appreciated the strategic commitment by the university council to digitize all processes in order to enhance the financial management of the Premier University in Uganda.
