Assoc. Prof. Umar Kakumba has just handed over the office of First Deputy Vice Chancellor to Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi, thus ending a five-and-half-year tenure.
Among the dignitaries that attended the handingover ceremony this morning, August 2, 2024, were some senior university officials including Prof. Henry Alinaitwe, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration, representing the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nawangwe.
In this regard, Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi, a very renowned academic with a very rich background in the economics of forestry resources, takes up the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellorship (Academic Affairs). His tenure will be with effect from July 11, 2024, for a period of six months, ending on January 10, 2025, or until a permanent appointment is made.
Prof. Mukadasi holds a PhD in Forest Economics from Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and has served from 2014 up to October 2022 as Director of the Directorate of Research and Graduate Training at Makerere University.
Like the university, Prof. Kakumba has kept under wraps what his next move will be. How this transition and new leadership shall alter the trajectory of the varsity remains to be seen.
