Makerere University has announced an extension to Friday, August 16, 2024, for students seeking to change their academic programs or courses for the 2024/2025 Academic Year.
This has been extended by the university management from the initial Friday, 9th August 2024. Extra time needed to be given to students to make decisions on their choices and complete all procedures as required. The move is intended to consider students who, due to various challenges, might not have made it within the initial deadline.
How to Apply for a Programme Change
Students wishing to change programmes or subjects should apply online using Makerere University’s official student portal. A non-refundable application fee of UGX 6,000 shall be levied on students to process the application. This is payable alongside any applicable bank charge as shall be indicated in the case, depending on the chosen payment gateway.
The university has insisted that any and all changes should be thoroughly processed through official channels. Any change made outside the set regulations shall not be acknowledged, and any adverse action relating to the same could even mean discontinuation from the university. This stringent policy makes it imperative to adhere to official procedures to effect a smooth and legitimate transition to any other programme/course.
Notification and Finalization of Changes
Once a student’s request to declare or change programs has been approved, the student will be notified officially by the university. At that point, the student must complete and return the acceptance forms to the Undergraduate Admissions and Records Office as well as to both the student’s former and new Colleges or Schools.
Makerere University has encouraged all students who wish to change their academic programmes to take advantage of the extension and ensure that all procedures involved are completed within the set time. This is, therefore, an important opportunity for students to review their academic goals and make informed decisions regarding further studies.
