Makerere University has officially washed its hands off a one Mr. Serunkuma who has been masquerading as a political theorist affiliated to the university. The university in a statement today indicated that Serunkuma is no longer affiliated with Makerere.
The statement issued by Ritah Namisango, the university’s Principal Public Relations Officer gave the background of Serunkuma’s academic dealings at Makerere. He was initially admitted in 2012 to a five-year interdisciplinary PhD in social studies with a master’s component. While Serunkuma successfully completed the master’s component of that program, he did not meet academic eligibility to proceed to the PhD stage and thus was dismissed from the program in accordance with university policy.
It said, “Mr. Serunkuma does not hold a PhD from Makerere University is no longer attached to the university and finally has no ongoing relationship with the institution.”
This statement was in response to repeated statements by Serunkuma of his association with Makerere, which the university wanted to put right in order to save its reputation and avoid a situation where the false information would have continued to spread.
