The Forum for Women in Democracy and Reach a Hand Uganda are excited to announce the second edition of the long-anticipated IMARA Girl Festival. This annual event, slated for Saturday, October 12, 2024, will come alive with color at Kati Kati Grounds in Kampala as a brilliant expression of the voices, innovation, and creativity of young women.
On the International Day of the Girl Child, it will zero in on the theme “Invest In Her, Unleash Her Potential,” a day that is all about the celebration of achievements by women and girls who break barriers and challenge stereotypes. The event should symbolize a source of inspiration for soliciting actionable solutions toward the socio-economic challenges that affect young women in society today.
Festival with a Reason
The IMARA Girl Festival is a celebration and a platform for purpose. This year, it shall raise awareness and funds towards establishing the IMARA Women Centre led by FOWODE. The centre will be created as a hub for advancing women’s rights in Uganda, providing a space for reflection, learning, networking, and nurturing creativity and innovation among women and girls.
The centre will also focus on promoting wellness, combating gender-based violence, and offering opportunities for girls to participate in STEM through incubation hubs and facilities.
October 12th, What to Expect
The day will be filled with dynamic activities meant to educate, entertain, and inspire:
- Conversational Engagements: This will involve seasoned leaders, mentors, and role models who will share valuable insights into the challenges that young girls face and provide practical solutions. Distinguished speakers will share their experiences, encouraging the girl child to dream big and work towards achieving her goals.
- Peer Learning Sessions: Inspiring youth leaders will facilitate workshops on issues such as Gender-Based Violence, Menstrual Hygiene Management, and restrictive gender norms, stimulating interactive discussions about creating pathways to overcome these challenges.
- Exhibitions: There will be opportunities for visitors to view unique products from local small and mid-sized companies, alongside services from civil society organizations, the private sector, and industries in health, banking, and entrepreneurship.
- Enlivening Performances: The day will be crowned by sterling performances from famous Ugandan artists, providing a festive atmosphere.
The IMARA Girls Festival 2024 is poised to be a defining moment in celebrating the power and potential of young women while contributing to the broader movement for gender equality and empowerment in Uganda.
