Joseph Tamale Mirundi was born in 1964 in Rakai District of Uganda. He was a renowned Ugandan journalist, author, and political analyst. He is best known as the presidential press secretary for President Yoweri Museveni; he served for approximately 13 years prior to his firing in July 2015.
Mirundi became known for his influential commentaries, which have spanned a myriad of media—from Radio 4, NBS TV, and Top Radio, among others. He was also known for his sharp political analysis and commentaries.
Aside from his media career, Mirundi had been battling health complications, which included water in the lungs, and it was reported that he died from complications on August 13, 2024, at Kisubi Hospital in Kampala. His health had improved of late but deteriorated so fast, complicating a medical procedure.
Mirundi had his education at Lubiri Secondary School and held a Bachelor of Mass Communication and a Master’s degree in Communication. His demise, therefore, is a detrimental loss to the Ugandan media and political fraternity.
