Mukamawenka Edwinnie emerged the winner of the race for the 9th Guild Presidency of Kabale University in a closely contested election. She won the election after garnering 1,011 votes in the Saturday polls.
Her closest rival, Jonathan Reid, came second with 676 votes, while the third-placed Buhungiro Andrew Tomson garnered 367 votes.
In a post on her social network page after her victory, Mukamawenka thanked the students for believing in her and promised to work for the institution with passion. “Deep appreciation to every individual who trusted me with their vote, Mukamawenka Edwinnie, as your Guild President. Your confidence and trust thrust me into serving Kabale University with passion. Together, we shall make it big! Thank you for this mandate,” she said.
The victory entitles Mukamawenka as the 9th guild president of the university, which now carries the expectations of fellow students to push the university to greater heights. Her election is also a litmus test of the growing influence of the NRM among university students.
With her ascension to office, the student community remains hopeful for positive change in leadership from Mukamawenka.
