Bushenyi, Valley University of Science and Technology (VUST) continues to stand out not only as an Institution of academic excellence but also as a place where spiritual growth and faith are nurtured. This past week, two significant religious events demonstrated the University’s commitment to supporting students’ faith across various denominations.
On Sunday 15th September, 2024, the Anglican community of VUST led a vibrant service at St. James Church of Uganda, Katungu. The sermon was delivered by Rev. Turyatunga Junior, a dedicated student of VUST who preached about protection, planning, prayer, practicing what you have planned for and above all being humble in all we do. He was supported by Rev. Perez Atukwatse, the Curate of St. James C.O.U. The service was marked by fervent prayers, hymns, and inspirational messages. In his remarks, Rev. Perez expressed his appreciation for VUST, highlighting the Institution’s commitment to being God-fearing. He implored students to embrace their uniqueness and stand out as University students who walk in the light of God. His remarks as the host curate resonated deeply with attendees, reinforcing the need for students to lead lives of integrity and spiritual maturity.
The service was graced by the presence of the University Secretary, Mr. Janan Mubehamwe, alongside other members of the University staff, which underscored the importance VUST places on integrating faith with education.
Similarly, the VUST Catholic Community held a mass on Thursday, 12th of September, 2024 in the University’s main hall, drawing an overwhelming attendance of hundreds of students. The mass was led by Rev. Fr. Patrick Mugisa from St. Mary’s Parish in Kagadi, whose journey to VUST exemplified his dedication and love for the University community. In his heartfelt sermon, Fr. Mugisa called for hard work, togetherness, and love, urging students to foster harmonious relationships in their academic and personal lives.
Dr. Deusdedit Byabashaija, the Academic Registrar, expressed his deep gratitude to Fr. Mugisa for making the long trip from Kagadi to celebrate mass with the students. Dr. Byabashaija emphasized the University’s ongoing commitment to providing opportunities for students of all denominations to grow in their faith.
Valley University of Science and Technology takes pride in being a nurturing environment where students are encouraged to deepen their spiritual journey. The institution actively supports and facilitates religious activities for different denominations, creating an inclusive atmosphere where students can freely practice and grow in their faith.
These recent events are a reflection of the university’s broader mission to develop well-rounded individuals who excel academically, spiritually, and socially.
