The DICTS at Makerere University has introduced a new system that could probably ease the stress of tuition payment. In a notice, the university said the students will now enjoy a system which will basically enable them to make partial payments or deposits toward their tuition fee in the university student portal.
This new system of payment allows flexibility: a student can contribute any amount between UGX 50,000 and UGX 1,000,000, subject to individual financial conditions. It is meant to accommodate financial diversity and avoid the burden of settling the entire school tuition at once.
To make a payment, all a student does is generate a PRN from the portal. This PRN is then used to make the transaction at banks, through mobile money services, or other payment agents.
In such a case, DICT advises students not to withdraw from making payments if they cannot afford the full tuition fee at once. Rather, using the PRN, they should deposit whatever manageable amount they can at any particular time. By adopting this approach, a student can effectively manage his/her tuition fees by gradually clearing their balances without feeling too much pressure.
This is reflective of a commitment to supporting its students and opening higher education in such practical ways that Makerere University, through its various units, solves financially draining challenges.
