Sources indicate that students participating in the recent #March2Parliament protests are facing imminent expulsion from their universities. The protests, which drew significant participation from students across various academic disciplines, including law and medicine, were organized to protest against corruption in Uganda.
University administrations, including that of Makerere University (MUK), are reportedly in high-level discussions to finalize the expulsion of the involved students. This move comes amid growing pressure to uphold discipline and order within educational institutions.
The students at risk of expulsion are from diverse programs, including prestigious fields such as law and medicine. Their involvement in the #March2Parliament protests has attracted significant attention, with university officials arguing that participation in unauthorized demonstrations warrants severe disciplinary action.
In related news, several protesters, including former Makerere University Guild President Papa Were, were arrested this morning as they commenced their march to Parliament in downtown Kampala. The demonstration, organized by a coalition of youth activists, sought to highlight pervasive corruption in the nation. However, the march was promptly halted by a heavy police presence.
Other arrested individuals include KFM’s Faiza Salim, Bernard Ewalu (aka Beewol), Thomas Kanzira, and Musiri David, among others.
