Mbarara University of Science and Technology said its official Facebook page had been hacked and was posting information incompatible with the values and mission of the university.
A public notice of the breach was sent out by the university’s Communications Office, noting that the organization is “working with Facebook to resolve the situation and have the page restored to our control.” The hacked page has posted material “that does not reflect or represent the official position or work of the university.”.
MUST has appealed to the public to disregard any information or actions transacted from the hacked page within this period. The university has apologized for the inconvenience or concern this has caused its community and its stakeholders.
It has also emerged that the university management is already highly involved with Facebook to have the issue sorted out and has promised to keep the university community abreast of any developments as soon as more information becomes available. The Communications Office has assured that steps are being taken to prevent this from happening again and to ensure a safe social media presence.
The university encourages all followers to refer to the university website and other verified channels of communication for accurate and up-to-date information.
