Proceedings in Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court have charged Dr. Eron Lawrence, a sacked lecturer of Kyambogo University, with aggravated defilement. Prosecution lawyer State Attorney Eunice Mbaine presented the committal papers to Chief Magistrate Christine Nantege to show the evidence meant for trial in the High Court.
The evidence is that on this day, October 12, 2023, Dr. Eron is said to have committed an act of carnal knowledge against the order of nature to a visually impaired underage girl. The offense is alleged to have been committed between Kyambogo University and Namugongo village, Wakiso District.
The case can be traced back to October 9, 2023, when the victim, the President of a school association, had attended a conference in Nairobi, Kenya, with Dr. Eron and other students. On the way back, Dr. Eron offered to drop all the students at their respective destinations. He is reported to have dropped the visually impaired victim last. During this time, he offered her a bottle of water, which made her black out after drinking it.
She woke up and discovered that she was in the rear seat of Dr. Eron’s car. Physical evidence proved that Dr. Eron administered a tablet to her and said that it was a pill that contained an “emergency,” and she discovered that she was sexually abused.
The doctor it seems dropped by a petrol station and later dropped the victim at her home, where he also stayed long and chatted with her auntie before his departure. The female victim was reported to the matter by the School Matron, who then reported the incident to the head teacher and police.
Investigations led to the arrest of Dr. Eron. Toxicological tests on yellow tablets the suspect had on him reveal the pills were an erectile dysfunction drug. The prosecution will tender DNA and toxicological analysis reports, the victim’s attires and CCTV footage during the trial Dr. Eron, whose services have now been terminated by Kyambogo University, meanwhile remains on remand as he waits for the hearing by the High Court.
