The untimely death of Hon. Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, founder of Metropolitan International University and Uganda’s State Minister for Defense and Veteran Affairs, plunged the university into mourning. She leaves a trail of dedication, commitment, and vision that her passing will be felt in academia and service to the nation as a whole.
Hon. Mateke Nyirabashitsi was a highly respected political leader and was deeply committed to the development of education in Uganda. She founded MIU with the mission of giving educative and inclusive services to the students both locally and elsewhere. Under her stewardship, the institution became one of the most quality higher learning institutions equipping thousands of students with the skills and abilities they needed to be successful in changing circumstances around the world.
Besides serving in education, Hon. Mateke Nyirabashitsi was a dedicated public servant. She performed crucial work on behalf of soldier welfare and veteran affairs as State Minister for Defense and Veteran Affairs with notable leadership and consideration toward Uganda’s military community. Her contributions to education and public service will remain a part of her legacy for many years to come.
