Reachel Akidi has emerged the winner of the just-concluded Miss Tourism Karamoja in a sparkling event held over the weekend at Moroto Resort Hotel in Moroto District. The beauty pageant, which emphasized the cultural diversity of Karamoja, ended with Akidi taking the crown amid a thunderous evening of excitement and cultural festivity.
The event, that began at about 6 pm, had many notable figures in attendance, most notably the Guest of Honour, Mr. Longoli Simon Peter Apalochibakori, the Karamoja Development Forum’s Director. From this start, with jazz characterized by the venue, it was a bravado display of talents, pose, and lots of entertainment as the audience was brought out with traditional dance and cultural displays, not forgetting runway segments.
Abim District’s Reachel Akidi emerged the winner, beating other contestants where Anastasia Atyang emerged second and Jacinta Lockeris third. Top three to proceed to a boot camp for intensive training and mentorship ahead of the national Miss Tourism Uganda.
The grand finale will be held on the 14th of September 2019 at Serena Hotel in Kampala and is projected to be such a glamorous event, spotlighting different categories, among which will include talent, cultural awareness, and tourism advocacy. The winner will represent Uganda’s tourism sector, advocating for the rich cultural and natural heritage of the country both nationally and internationally.
This victory gives Reachel Akidi a moment of personal achievement but has served as a window to open up more spotlight on unique cultural and touristic features in the Karamoja region. This victory means so much to her community, which will be very proud, and will also inspire young women throughout Uganda. Through the years, the Miss Tourism Uganda pageant has served as an avenue in bringing out rich heritage in the country and harnessing potential emerging leaders.
