In light of the impending 21st Kyambogo University guild elections, the National Unity Platform has fronted Mugalya Humphrey as its candidate for the presidency. This move has been made in the wake of his decisive victory in the party primaries held at NUP headquarters in Kavule, where Mugalya received 259 votes against the closest competitor, Akiso Benjamin, who trailed with a meager 6 votes.
The leadership of NUP says they believe in Mugalya’s leadership and asked the students to join hands with a candidate who has been fronting their interest and aspirations. They congratulated him upon his victory in a statement shared on social media as they called upon the Kyambogo University community to support him, as he intends to provide good leadership in the guild.
“Comrade Mugalya Humphrey is our official flag bearer for the 21st Kyambogo University guild polls, having garnered 259 votes in the party primaries held today at our head offices in Kavule, while his closest challenger, Comrade Akiso Benjamin, polled 06 votes. We congratulate him,” the party tweeted.
Mugalya’s endorsement happens at a time when NUP has posted impressive results in many institutions of higher learning across the country. With a strong record of victories, this party’s backing will expect to give great fuel to Mugalya’s campaign, building up the momentum as he heads into the final election.
Mugalya has not yet fully articulated his platform and vision for the guild; but expectations are high, with him set to engage students on issues considered paramount in their academic and social lives at university level. The interest that the coming election has generated within the student fraternity is of a high magnitude, with Mugalya’s candidature already fast becoming the talking point on campus.
This indicates a greater consolidation in support of Mugalya by students as they head to the polls for leadership that represents their ideals and interests. With NUP’s official endorsement, Mugalya Humphrey is one strong contender in the race for Kyambogo University guild presidency.
