Makerere University is advancing its renovation agenda of its halls of residence, with Mary Stuart Hall earmarked for major face-lifting.
The project was marked by an exciting presentation from a group of Makerere University architecture students led by Arch. Dr. Kenneth Semwogerere, where students shared their creative thoughts regarding the upgrading of Mary Stuart Hall in a session attended by the university’s vice-chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe.
The presentation of the group showed their design improvements, which were on hall renovation to a more modern one while respecting its historical value. Renovation works focus on creating a comfortable and conducive living environment for the students, including modern amenities and green designs.
The renovation of Mary Stuart Hall is part of a greater initiative by Makerere University, which began in 2022 to alter living and facility conditions in its halls of residence. It will set up a student living community that will give students the best living conditions conducive to fostering academic and personal development.
Renovation of Lumumba Hall, which is the first in the pipeline, is almost complete, hence setting a good precedent for the upcoming work on Mary Stuart Hall. The success in refurbishing Lumumba Hall has given so valuable insights and experiences to be applied in renovating Mary Stuart Hall, hence ensuring success.
The university community is yearning to see Mary Stuart Hall, one of the very iconic halls in the history of Makerere University, transformed. It will not only foster infrastructural development but also well-being and success for students accommodated in this hall.
