He led the formation of the Makerere Diaspora Alumni Association, an initiative connecting the current students with the University’s alumni living abroad. It is developed after Nsamba’s official visit to the United States, where he engaged with the diaspora alumni in pursuit of strategic relations between Makerere University and its global alumni network.
He points out that this was during the virtual discussion with the United States-based Makerere alumni on how such an organized platform would be developed to make Makerere students benefit from experiences and resources of those abroad. Thus, he continues, the birth of the Makerere Diaspora Alumni Association was aimed at guidance and opportunities to students coming from different lines of work across the globe. This will act as a bridge between Makerere University and its alumni, as this may foster partnerships that would eventually be beneficial to the university in one way or another.
Nsamba added that the association was going to avail students from Makerere with opportunities to attract useful connections with the help of alumni, especially in the United States. “Such connections will facilitate opportunities for internships, mentorship programs, and professional guidance that are going to enhance academic and professional prospects for our students.
While in the United States, Nsamba also met with various stakeholders to discuss other potential opportunities that might benefit Makerere University and its students. His visit was graced by a high-profile meeting with the legendary television personality Shaka Ssali, which further extended the scope of his overseas engagements.
With all these, it is expected that Nsamba will return at the end of the week with his good results. The Makerere Diaspora Alumni Association should thus have a lasting impact on both the university and its students to connect them to the broader global community.
