Kampala International University welcomed its new Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Muhammed Ngoma, to succeed Prof. Muhammad Mpezamihigo. Prof. Ngoma, formerly a distinguished academic in Makerere University Business School, brings along a vast bank of experience and expertise to his new role.
Background Information and Experience:
Prof. Ngoma holds a Doctor of Philosophy, a Master of Science, and a Bachelor of Commerce from Makerere University. He is a professor of Business Administration and Management with a record of high profile leadership posts: Chairperson of the Board of Directors at Uganda Security Printing Company USPC, serving as a member of the board of Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation UPPC, and holder of immense participation at the Islamic University in Uganda-IUIU, where he serves as a Member of the Audit Committee.
Achievements:
Prof. Ngoma has had a 26-year career with many academic and administrative positions, including Head of the Business Administration Department and Dean of the Faculty of Management at MUBS. He served as Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, which took charge of graduate research and training. His contributions to academia further include over 65 peer-reviewed publications and the supervision of 26 PhD and many master’s students.
Future Plans:
He officially took office on June 4 and will be installed formally on July 13, where KIU will hold its 29th graduation ceremony. In a statement shortly after the end of the cold handover of instruments of power ceremony, Prof Ngoma expressed his willingness and readiness to face any challenge ahead and pledged to put more efforts into pushing the agenda forward towards advancing the KIU mission. His immediate predecessor, Prof Mpezamihigo, who is now the vice-chancellor of Equator University of Science and Technology, was confident that under the leadership of Prof Ngoma, KIU would grow to greater heights and asked the KIU community to support him.
His versatility in various qualifications and enormous experience in administration and leadership of higher education serve to uniquely place him at the forefront as KIU embarks on its next development phase.
