Apple is all geared up to launch its new iPhone 16 series by mid-Sep; just two months from now. A total of four models are coming this time: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Here’s a roundup of some of the most exciting rumors regarding the new iPhones:
1. Bigger Displays
The upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models are said to have the biggest-ever screens for an iPhone at 6.27 inches and 6.86 inches, respectively. This dwarfs even the biggest models found within the older iPhone 15 Pro sibling, with only a 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display.
3. Vertical Camera Design
The new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will finally come with a vertical camera layout having a pill-shaped raised surface, eliminating the diagonal arrangement found in the iPhone 15 series. This would reportedly allow Spatial Video recording to happen, which is currently limited only to Pro models of the iPhone 15 lineup.
4. Battery Changes
The iPhones 16 and 16 Pro Max will likely have increased battery capacity—6% for the former and 5% for the latter, over their predecessors. At the same time, the Plus could have a 9% reduction in its battery capacity. Apple also might use stacked battery technology to increase the energy density, thereby increasing battery life on all models.
5. Capture Button
A new “Capture Button” comes to all iPhone 16 models for photo and video capture, near the zooming and focusing features when the button is pressed. This button will kill the mmWave antenna on the U.S. models, which will move to the left side of the device.
6. Ultra Wide Lens Upgrade
The iPhone 16 Pro models are claimed to sport a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera for better results in low light and supporting 48-megapixel ProRAW photos in Ultra Wide mode. The iPhone 16 Pro Max is also said to have a larger primary camera with a custom 48-megapixel Sony IMX903 sensor.
7. Super Telephoto Camera
Now, there’s a possibility that the iPhone 16 Pro Max might come equipped with a super telephoto periscope camera to enable more optical zooming. This might very well turn out useful in sports, wildlife shots, or even portrait photography.
8. Faster Wi-Fi Support
Support for Wi-Fi 7 will be available in the Pro line-up, guaranteeing enhanced speeds and better connectivity, while the base iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus come with support for Wi-Fi 6E.
9. New A18 Series Chips
All models of the iPhone 16 will pack Apple’s next-generation A18 chips—the first in the market built with TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process. This will make way for new AI features coming in iOS 18.
10. 5G Qualcomm Modem
For the very first time, the Pro models of the iPhone 16 will feature Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon X75 Modem to provide faster 5G and lower power consumption. Standard models, however, still contain the Snapdragon X70 modem.
11. Tetraprism Lens
Both models of the iPhone 16 Pro will feature a 5x optical zoom, thanks to Apple’s tetraprism lens system for enhanced zoom capabilities.
12. Micro-Lens Technology
Apple would be using micro-lens technology in the process of making OLED displays brighter while using less power but with the same or enhanced quality of displays.
13. Action Button
This action button that will allow quick access to user-defined functions won’t be exclusive to the Pro models; even the base model of iPhone 16 will feature this action button.
14. 40W Fast Charging and 20W MagSafe
The iPhone 16 Pro models are going to charge at 40W wired fast charging and 20W MagSafe for a quick and efficient charge.
15. Improved Microphone
The series will specifically see a far improved mic to make voice input better while using Siri and other Apple Intelligence features.
16. New Thermal Design
There is a rumor that Apple will use its graphene thermal system to try and reduce overheating, in particular on the Pros.
17. More Storage
The iPhone 16 Pro will have up to 2TB of storage, which is twice as big as the biggest capacity on the iPhone 15 Pro models.
18. More Memory
The base iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will feature 8GB of RAM, up from 6GB in the previous model, boosting performance and multitasking.
19. Better Neural Engine
The new A18 chips will include a more advanced Neural Engine with more cores that can run AI and machine learning operations at faster speeds.
20. Ultra-Thin Bezel Technology
Apple has scheduled ultra-thin bezel technology to maximize the display size; the Pro models have the thinnest bezels fitted on any smartphone.
21. New Polished Titanium Finish
The upcoming iPhone 16 Pro models will be equipped with an even more polished titanium finish, giving it a glossy look and better scratch resistance.
22. Reduced Lens Flare
Testing on a new anti-reflective optical coating by Apple that significantly reduces lens flare and ghosting in photos.
23. New Colors
The iPhone 16 Pro models will come in black, silver, gray, and rose, while the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be available in black, green, pink, blue, and white.
More updates underway; keep us near as the launch date of the iPhone 16 series draws closer.
iPhone 16 launch event was a bit of a disappointment since other than the new A18 6-core chipset + 48MP camera + wifi 7 and 4k @ 120fps recording (Samsung already had it on S24 Ultra) we did not get anything else… And the whole AI is not even live…And that camera button that is very uncomfortable for portrait shots. One major camera improvement – low light photo performance!
Unless you are upgrading from iPhone 11 or earlier models, it does not make sense to go for 16 pro models this time. Wait for another year.
