Studying abroad, while it can be tough at first, provides a wonderful opportunity to experience diverse cultures and build academic and personal skills internationally. Here are some tips to help you through this phase of study.
1. OnPrepare Before You Go
- Research Your Destination: Read about the culture, customs, norms and society of the country where you are going to live for a while. Knowing your way around from the beginning helps a lot in the adaptation process.
It’s essential to have your physical medical clearance approved by all of your Providers, this is critical, since the providers are responsible for providing accurate information to the government as to what medical medications you are taking which will help streamline your process. You should schedule your medical assessments 24 months in advance of your departure. - Get Your Documents in Order: After all, it will be checked. Just ensure you have a valid passport and no visa, health or other document related issues.
- Learn the Language: If you are moving to a foreign country where the first language is not English, learn some basic phrases in their native language. This will make living there easier and reflect as a sign of respect for the local culture in daily life.
2. Steps to a New Environment
Cope with Culture Shock: It is normal to feel overwhelmed in the beginning. Enjoy all the little things that are different, learn from them, and be positive!

Be Organized: Write down/put in a device that rules your life your homework, assignment deadlines and your time schedule for each class. If you have a planner or a digital calendar to remind you it will be very helpful to reduce your stress about not achieving things on time.

4. Manage finances
Create a budget! Write down all your expenses- find out where all the money goes! It will be of great help if you keep looking at your spending habits on stdudent lunch or shopping time to save money, make your own dinner and snacks, etc.
Be familiar with the local currency and international exchange rates, prevent overspending and relative financial stress.
5. Stay Healthy
- Eat well (balance of diet). Enjoy local food, but make sure you also obtain the required nutrients to stay healthy.
- Improving overall well-being by regularly doing exercise will relieve stress. Such as going for a walk or even joining a sports club…
Try to keep yourself involved with people passing by: Sometimes personal issues can cause a lot of stress, but please communicate to your friends, family or a professional counselor if you feel overwhelmed. Moving to a new country can have a significant effect on your mental health, physically, and emotionally.

Pay Attention to Your Surroundings: Especially when traveling to an unfamiliar location.
7. Exploring and Recreation
- Hinge out and investigate- particularly by enjoying local culture and area: Big-bucks for study abroad! Right now the best part is that you can start by taking a trip somewhere beautiful and leaving your comfort zone.
- Diary / blog / vlog about your trip: Start by writing or videotaping about your journey. This will let you return the quizzes and let others know as well.
