Eddy Kenzo has finally broken his silence amidst speculation that he is likely to change his religion so that he can wed his fiancée, Phiona Nyamutoro. To the singer of the hit song “Byansi”, he responded rather clearly—with a hint of skepticism.
On being asked whether he would convert from Islam or change his religion for his lady-love, Kenzo became forthright. “Why would I change?” he asked, stressing that his faith is personal and not something he would change due to any pressure from others.
I don’t see the world as others do,” Kenzo continued. “Everyone has their perspective. It’s about faith, not religion. It’s about how you appreciate and believe in your God.” He was frustrated; his relationship with Nyamutoro seemed to stir a division out of the right wing that was so unrequired.
The singer also said at no point has Nyamutoro’s family, close or distant, at any time asked him to convert. “That’s not true,” he said, rubbishing reports that her family had asked him to change his religion. “That is propaganda. Mere earthly talk. Why should they want me to change religion? They have never even mentioned it.”
The speculations started after a Ugandan model-cum-fashion designer, Doreen Kabareebe, took to her social media handles and made a rather controversial prediction about Kenzo’s marriage. On her social media handles, Doreen predicted that Kenzo would convert into Christianity to wed Nyamutoro, which has now sparked varied debates online. But Minister Nyamutoro’s parents are in support of the wedding regardless of what people say about Kenzo’s religion. Nyamutoro’s dad, Patrick Aperu, even said he has no say as far as his daughter’s choice of husband is concerned.
Kenzo’s response showed attachment to his faith and tied it with his relationship with Nyamutoro, and while pointing a finger at what he perceives as false information that was spilled into the public about his personal life.
