Sources indicate that Iconic Kampala Nightclub, Club Guvnor, based in the Industrial Area, will be closing its doors to sharp nightlife city revellers in December 2024. This will drop the curtain on an exciting legacy that has lasted for generations. Renowned for its electric atmosphere and high-end events, the discotheque has made big waves in Kampala’s social scene.
KFM’s morning show host Kasuku broke the news of the club’s imminent closure. He says that he received a tip from reliable sources that indicated when Guvnor would drop its final curtain. The club, he says, will have its final event on 27th December 2024, and that will bring an end to the drama in Uganda’s nightlife.
Club Guvnor had announced in May 2024 that it would stop the popular Saturday night operations starting in June. It would be available, however, for private hire on Saturdays for Private Parties, Events, Concerts, Product Launches, and Presentations. It was the first gradual wind-up phase of its operations, and actually, it opens on Fridays these days only.
These Friday events include the popular Friday Night Live with Afrigo Band, which happens on the last Friday of the month, Oldies Night every first Friday, Guvnor FriYAY with Aka Dope Band happens on the second Friday, and Guvnor FriYAY – Afro Fusion Night happens on the third Friday.
For many years, Club Guvnor had become synonymous with Kampala’s high-life night entertainment, attracting both locals and foreigners. But now that its closure is gaining momentum, it goes without saying that this is one of those gaps that will be highly felt in Kampala’s social scene as many bid farewell to the king of the night.
