Over the weekend, Uganda’s music legend, Chameleone, celebrated his remarkable 25-year career with a dazzling performance at Kampala Serena Hotel. The event, aptly named ‘Legend in Gold,’ attracted a diverse crowd, all anxious to witness the star in action as he marked this significant milestone in his musical journey.
Taking to the stage at exactly 9:10 pm, golden-robed Chameleone opened the night with his monster hit single Kipepeo, setting the standard for a night of retro moments coupled with high-energy action. In attendance, including a fully booked VIP section, the audience gave a standing ovation to the star as he began the performance that lasted for over four hours.
The first session was a showcase of hit-packed Chameleone classics from the early 2000s, like Beyi Kali, Mambo Bado, Befula, Nekolera Maali, Dorotia, Mama Mia, Byansi Byakuleka, and Moto Moto. These sent the crowd into overdrive as they sang every word some ten-plus years later.
His pace slackened later on with smoother melodies, as the soulful song Nkwagala Nyo found its way into the night. He also paid tribute to his wife Daniella in a heartwarming rendition of the song Daniella, although earlier done by Papa Cidy, and his son did at the concert, adding personal touch to the evening.
The energy went back up in the second half of the concert when Chameleone went into his full staple of hits, including Vumilia, Valu Valu, Badilisha, and Basima Ogenze. This was arguably one of the most captivating moments of the night: the time he finally invited his brother Weasel to join him, and out of brotherly love, sent the audience into a frenzy with their hit Bomboclat.
The event became a testament to Chameleone’s lasting power across generations, attracting not only his lifelong followers but also the younger audience that has grown up with his music. From musicians, government officials, socialites to fans, all flocked in to celebrate the cultural impact his music has had for the last two and a half decades.
It was also a tribute to the production by Fenon Events. They brought in a huge stage with amazing graphics and perfect sound so that every moment of the concert was carried out with perfection. Fenon Events gave minute attention to details-from instant changes of microphones to perfect transitions in the entire program-showing exactly why they were considered among the best in the business.
The concert, named ‘Legend in Gold’, put together by Bugingo Events and Malembe Lifestyle, was a performance that celebrated his reign and impact within the Ugandan music industries. As the curtains were closing, Chameleone’s shining influence seemed to be in place, securing his fate among the icons of Uganda.
