Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has marked a significant milestone in his life by graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Cavendish University. This achievement follows a rigorous seven-year academic journey that began in August 2016.
Bobi Wine took to social media platform X to share his excitement and gratitude. Reflecting on his academic path, he posted, “In August 2016, after much procrastination, I attended my first lecture in Law School at the International University of East Africa (IUEA). Seven years later, I have graduated with a Bachelor of Laws Degree from @CavendishUg University.”
He expressed deep appreciation for those who supported him throughout his studies, acknowledging several key figures:
Don Sheriff: A fellow student who shared Bobi Wine’s passion for freedom and justice. Bobi Wine thanked Don Sheriff for his support, saying, “It’s this course that brought us together only for us to realize that we shared much more than just being law students but the passion for freedom and justice. I owe you a lot of gratitude for the assistance throughout all my years in law school.”
David L. Rubongoya: Bobi Wine’s first Constitutional Law lecturer at IUEA, who advised him to transfer to Cavendish University to ensure a smoother accreditation path. Bobi Wine acknowledged Rubongoya’s foresight and support, stating, “From the first Constitutional Law lecture that you conducted in First Year 2016 at IUEA, I knew that you would be a comrade. It was your idea to transfer from IUEA, which at the time was not yet fully accredited to teach law, to Cavendish University, which was already accredited.”
Barbie Itungo Kyagulanyi: His wife, who provided constant encouragement and motivation. Bobi Wine expressed his heartfelt thanks, saying, “I am sure I wouldn’t complete this course without your, sometimes inconveniencing push. So many times I felt like giving up but you would never allow me to leave the mission incomplete. Only you know how many times I came close to giving up. Thank you for always keeping me encouraged and nourished.”
Bobi Wine’s path was not without challenges. He faced delays in graduation last year due to missed lectures in one course unit, which required an additional semester of re-attendance. Despite these hurdles, he embraced the difficulties with resilience.
His academic journey also faced scrutiny from the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), which conducted a detailed investigation into his academic records. Bobi Wine remarked on the irony of the situation, noting, “Recently, when news came out that I was set to graduate, the usual detractors got busy and made every effort to stop me. Some people, ostensibly working for the regime and other detractors, went as far as petitioning the National Council for Higher Education. It is after a very detailed and intense investigation that I was cleared to graduate today.”
Bobi Wine’s graduation from Cavendish University marks a significant personal and professional achievement. His perseverance through adversity and the support from his friends and family have been pivotal in reaching this milestone.
